Busy City Girl Makeup-Photography by David Dolsen

The setting was a busy West End sidewalk on a sunny summer day in Vancouver…. The stunning model was Kortney Krystik… The photographer, talented David Dolsen… Who else?
This was a whole day of makeup, modelling and shooting… With 3 different looks.

The first makeup look that I applied on Kortney started off light and natural, with a focus on her beautiful brown eyes. I applied long cluster false eyelashes on top of her natural lashes, and topped it off with a couple coats of Benefit’s BADGal Lash mascara to help blend them in. This created the “Girl the Next Door” look and was shot by David at a well know art piece at English Bay…

The second makeup look that I applied was a very dark smoky eye; the crease consisting mainly of MAC’s Print eyeshadow, then MAC’s Goldmine eyeshadow on the inner corners and brow bone. This created the “Mysterious Beauty” look and was shot by David in a West End apartment…

And finally the last makeup look consisted of MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick to add some fiery red hot lips to create Kortney’s “Bad Girl” feel. This look was shot by David on the busy sidewalks of Denman Street in Vancouver’s West End.

It was a long and fantastic day. Thanks to Kortney and David!

We had so much fun riding the double bikes along the seawall, although it wasn’t the most beautiful of days, weather wise…

Poison Ivy Makeup for Vancouver Photoshoot with Lloyd K. Barnes

I recently collaborated with model Chanty, and photographer Lloyd K. Barnes to create a “Poison Ivy” makeup look for a Vancouver Photoshoot.

For the “Poison Ivy” makeup I used all MAC Products starting with the Fix+Spray and Primer for the base. Then I used the NW35 moisture select foundation and NW30 concealer. I used a med/dark blot powder to set her makeup before I started on the blacktrax gel liner. With a fine pointed makeup brush I lightly applied some blacktrax on the tip of the brush and started with the eyeliner above and under Chanty’s eyes. I drew fine vines all over her cheeks, forehead and eye area, then painted the leaves in with a dark green eyeshadow. I applied some unique weaved false eyelashes and some Ruby Woo Matte Red Lipstick. Her final look was a fantastic Femme Fatale meets Poison Ivy and she rocked it!

This is my 2nd time working with Chanty and I absolutely adore her!! I’ve worked with Lloyd K. Barnes a dozen times and he is always a fantastic photographer, as well as consistently reliable and professional!

Mens Back Waxing… Even on Vacation!!

During a short vacation away from the busy city of Vancouver, while up at http://www.islandcottage-bc.com, I ended up doing a men’s back wax. Before I start, I prep the skin with a powder to soak up any oils or sweat… Then I apply the warm depilatory wax directly on the skin with the hair growth. I apply a wax strip on top of the wax that I just applied on the skin leaving enough room on the bottom of the strip so I can grab onto it. When my client is ready I grab a piece of the wax strip tightly, then pull super fast on a parallel angle against the hair growth. The faster the better. I apply pressure directly after I remove the strip to relieve some of the pain that may be present. I apply a moisturizing oil to remove any excess wax, then a post wax gel to soothe the skin.

It’s not recommended to combine wax and sun, although I still waxed my client’s back since I had permission from him to do it on the dock outside. Please do not try this at home!
