Outside The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup
I was recently contacted by Robert Collins, (reporter for Blanche Macdonald Centre) to talk about my journey in makeup and esthetics after attending Blanche Macdonald. We set up a meeting at The Studio to chat and Robert brought Serena Yau, the marketing manager (also the official photographer) along to snap some shots. We sat side by side, high up in the pedicure chairs with Nespresso‘s in hand, while Robert had his voice recording device out and started interviewing me. I was a bit nervous so I ended up rambling on about my experiences and journeys over the years since I had last taken my makeup artistry course at Blanche Macdonald in 2001. Serena was shooting away pics of The Studio, the products and the treatment room upstairs while I continued to talk Robert’s ear off. He was super laid back and funny, with a fabulous English accent. It was a pleasant experience, and I’m so very grateful they found me.

MAC cosmetics has the best Recycling Program that beats any beauty/cosmetics company out there… It’s called “Back to MAC” and I stand beside it 100%. All you have to do it use MAC products, save the used containers and bring them back to MAC when you have accumulated 6 containers, compacts, or anything else that has “Back 2 MAC” on the packaging. Once you bring the 6 empty containers back, you receive a free lipstick, lipglass or eyeshadow! How cool is that?

This is Maja on her wedding makeup trial day. When we spoke about what look she desired for her actual wedding day, she let me know that she wanted black smokey eyes. I did exactly that and added lashes to the mix. I applied a foundation in her shade, powdered to set it and found a great blush for her cheekbones. Then I darkened her eyebrows, added a pretty pink lippy and that was that. Maja’s wedding makeup trial!

It’s good to switch it up once in a while… and that’s what I did with my latest makeup blog. I decided to do a fun “make-under” on my willing model Yana, where I applied unflattering shades and colors on her for the before picture. Then I applied a more suitable foundation color and bronzer… I then focused more on creating a “cat-like” eye with natural looking false eyelashes. I used dark shadows on her top lash line and a silvery shadow for the inner corners of her eye. I then completed her look with a pale pink lip! I think the after pic is a more flattering makeup look for Yana. Take a look!
