Wedding shows are always a great opportunity to meet with fabulous future brides, so when The Studio Beauty Team was invited out to get a table at The Perfect Wedding Bridal Show, we jumped at the chance!

The girls packed up the car with some of The Studio’s staple decor pieces, along with some makeup products/tools and made our way to the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel in Richmond, BC. We set up our generously long table to showcase The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in the right light and managed to do so in no time. When the doors opened to the 420 attendees/brides, we all had our own designated jobs… Mika applied complimentary cluster eyelashes on brides, while Leah Roberts gave full on makeovers and Faye Smith handled the prize draw and chatted everyone up and drew crowds around our table. We had lineups for long periods of time and everyone got a chance to stop by eventually… All the ladies that came to stop by were a pleasure to meet and we cannot wait to work with them in the future!

Thanks to girls of The Studio Beauty Team that came out! We had a fabulous time with some familiar faces and all of the other wedding vendors and look forward to working with them soon.

The Most Frequently Asked Questions on Wedding Day Makeup:

“Bridal/Wedding Makeup Q&A”:

What makeup brands do you use? I mostly use MAC makeup, since I have a very generous discount there, and they frequently launch new makeup lines as well as have a variety of colours and products suitable for all skin tones/types! I also use Kryolan, Cinema Secrets, Ben Nye, and some Sephora products. I always like to branch out and try new products though, especially for mascaras, primers and eyeshadows…

Do you always sanitize your brushes? Yes! It is vital to always sanitize your brushes after each use. Whenever I have a client, I make sure to use only sanitized, clean and dry brushes then sanitize each brush after every application. I also use brand new sponges then throw them out after each use. This prevents any breakouts or spreading of bacteria from client to client.

What will our trial session consist of? After our initial meeting I will examine your complexion and skin type to determine what would suit you best and what shades or colours that would look amazing on you. I always start by spritzing a Fix+Spray from MAC to add vitamins and minerals then a moisturizer for your skin type along with a primer. I then apply a concealer on any visible blemishes or red spots, followed by a foundation, which is very important for the photos. Powder to set the makeup, then a bronzer or blush… I usually spend the most time on the eyes, unless specified. I can apply false eyelashes as well if you like, as I always recommend it.You can bring in a tear sheet of a makeup look you like for ideas, or an example of the colours that will be used in your wedding.  The trial is done for you to be comfortable with your final look so if you absolutely love what I have done then we will procede with booking my services for your wedding day.

Do you need a deposit after our trial session? Yes, I require a 20% deposit of the total rate, and a signed mutual aggreement that I will be your makeup artist for the day of your wedding to book my services.

How long will my makeup last on my wedding day? It will last from the moment I put it on until the next morning when you wake up!! (So lets just say it usually lasts anywhere from around 12- 24 hours, depending on what you get into on your big day… )

Mika Does Seattle… on the 4th of July

On our recent weekend trip out to Seattle, we stayed not too far away in Bellevue at my brother’s apartment… (A really pretty, wealthy & new city.) This is where we spent most of the day outdoors enjoying the sights and sunshine. We rollerbladed around Lake Union, and took a tour of Seattle aboard the “Ride The Duck” boat/bus around the city. We ate a massive meal at Maggiano’s in Bellevue which left us bloated and full for hours. We had an ice cold frappaccino at the FIRST EVER Starbucks in the World, and I bought a oversized souvenir mug.

Top 10 ways to find a fabulous Makeup Artist

Categories: entertainment, friends & family, general, health & beautyTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author: mika

Finding a perfect makeup artist for you and your bridal party on your wedding day can be overwhelming. I know I couldn’t just go to any makeup counter or the first makeup artist I find on a google search. That’s why I came up with this “Top 10 ways to find a fabulous Makeup Artist” list. Hopefully you can find this information useful!

1)Allow yourself plenty of time to book with your selected makeup artist. Many of them are booked up well in advance.

2)Look at your makeup artists testimonials (if they have them) for references that they have done a great job. That way you know you can trust them to get you gorgeous on your wedding day as well.

3)Make sure you treat the intial meeting like an interview. The makeup artist you choose will have to meet your standards and requirements.

4)Be prepared to spend some money on the initial first meeting. Trials usually cost the same as a makeup application (since they will be spending an hour or more on you to create your wedding day look.) Most bridal packages usually include the trial as well. Some makeup artists also charge an extra fee if they have to drive out to your location.

5)Arrive with a moisturized and clean slate (face), with no makeup, sweat or dirt for an easy application. Most makeup artists don’t want to spend extra time wiping off old makeup.

6)Have an idea of what shades/colours you want to use, or bring a picture of a makeup style you want to achieve. Decide on if you would like to use eyelashes or no eyelashes, dark lips, or light glossy… etc.

7)Bring a camera so you can capture a before and after picture, or make sure your makeup artist takes a picture with their camera. You want to have a reference to the makeup they did, and a picture so you can ask your friends or family if they like the final result.

8)Let your makeup artist know of any allergies you may have to skin products/makeup to prevent any rashes, breakouts or blotches.

9)Choose a makeup artist who you can relate to, or one with a good personality. You don’t want your wedding day to be brought down by a negative makeup artist. Make sure they are reliable so they can show up on time and not be stressed or rushed on the day of your wedding. It will save you a headache!

10)Let your makeup artist know the details of your wedding date so they can book plenty of time to apply the makeup before the ceremony, pictures and reception begin. Also, if you want the lip colour they have used on you, let them know prior to the date so they can pick you up the exact colour so you can re-touch throughout the evening.

Generally your makeup artist will know what they are doing. Allow them to be creative on the trial day since they ARE the artists. They should know what will look best on the beautiful bride to be.
