I know I couldn’t just go to any makeup counter or the first makeup artist I find on a google search. That’s why I came up with this “Top 10 ways to find a fabulous Makeup Artist” list. Hopefully you can find this information useful!
)Allow yourself plenty of time to book with your selected makeup artist. Many of them are booked up well in advance.
)Look at your makeup artists testimonials (if they have them) for references that they have done a great job. That way you know you can trust them to get you gorgeous on your wedding day as well.
)Make sure you treat the intial meeting like an interview. The makeup artist you choose will have to meet your standards and requirements.
)Be prepared to spend some money on the initial first meeting. Trials usually cost the same as a makeup application (since they will be spending an hour or more on you to create your wedding day look.) Most bridal packages usually include the trial as well. Some makeup artists also charge an extra fee if they have to drive out to your location.
)Arrive with a moisturized and clean slate (face), with no makeup, sweat or dirt for an easy application. Most makeup artists don’t want to spend extra time wiping off old makeup.
)Have an idea of what shades/colours you want to use, or bring a picture of a makeup style you want to achieve. Decide on if you would like to use eyelashes or no eyelashes, dark lips, or light glossy… etc.
)Bring a camera so you can capture a before and after picture, or make sure your makeup artist takes a picture with their camera. You want to have a reference to the makeup they did, and a picture so you can ask your friends or family if they like the final result.
)Let your makeup artist know of any allergies you may have to skin products/makeup to prevent any rashes, breakouts or blotches.
)Choose a makeup artist who you can relate to, or one with a good personality. You don’t want your wedding day to be brought down by a negative makeup artist. Make sure they are reliable so they can show up on time and not be stressed or rushed on the day of your wedding. It will save you a headache!
)Let your makeup artist know the details of your wedding date so they can book plenty of time to apply the makeup before the ceremony, pictures and reception begin. Also, if you want the lip colour they have used on you, let them know prior to the date so they can pick you up the exact colour so you can re-touch throughout the evening.
Generally your makeup artist will know what they are doing. Allow them to be creative on the trial day since they ARE the artists. They should know what will look best on the beautiful bride to be.
