What a pretty girl…

When my stunning client walked in for the first time to The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup, I thought she must already be wearing makeup because she was so beautiful! As it turned out, Bea did not have any makeup on and in fact, wanted her makeup done… by ME! I was obviously happy to take on this easy task, but loved every minute of it even more because she was such a sweetheart and so easy to talk to. I love clients like this!

I got together with Tina from Love-Photography to shoot Jamaican model Olivia at The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in downtown, Vancouver. We wanted to do a more creative makeup look on Olivia and focus on her full lips, so I started out with a funky blue lip liner on top of nude lips. On the second look I aimed to focus on her gorgeous eyes with a bright colour, so I chose yellow and gave her a winged liner with blue instead of the usual black. I applied full false strip eyelashes and a full coverage foundation to finish off Olivia’s creative makeup look.

Whenever we meet up with actress Danyella Angel we are always in for a surprise with her hair colour. This time around she went platinum blonde from a dark brown and she wanted to get new headshots to show off her new look. Photographer Lloyd K. Barnes was on board for this headshots photoshoot which took place at The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in downtown Vancouver. I did the makeup for this shoot and brought on Faye Smith for the hairstyling. Again, together we create beautiful images like the ones shown here.

I was pleased to hear that Makeup Forever was having a PRO seminar in Vancouver as that rarely happens throughout the year compared to other makeup companies. I signed up with my brand new MUFE card, and put a deposit down for the early bird registration to save some coin… I met up with Faye Smith just before the class for a quick coffee, a nice chat and a brisk walk to the hotel.

We sat in the second row to make sure we could catch everything that was happening… The Makeup Forever HD line was the main focus in this seminar and our instructor was in the movie industry as well as most of our class. All in all it was great to get out of The Studio, touch up on new makeup products, and of course the highlight was the shopping! I picked up many new products that I will use at The Studio on my clients.

This Makeup Forever makeup seminar was held at the Delta Vancouver Suites in the Innes Thompson room and was about 2 hours long with 1 hour of fierce shopping.

Wedding shows are always a great opportunity to meet with fabulous future brides, so when The Studio Beauty Team was invited out to get a table at The Perfect Wedding Bridal Show, we jumped at the chance!

The girls packed up the car with some of The Studio’s staple decor pieces, along with some makeup products/tools and made our way to the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel in Richmond, BC. We set up our generously long table to showcase The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in the right light and managed to do so in no time. When the doors opened to the 420 attendees/brides, we all had our own designated jobs… Mika applied complimentary cluster eyelashes on brides, while Leah Roberts gave full on makeovers and Faye Smith handled the prize draw and chatted everyone up and drew crowds around our table. We had lineups for long periods of time and everyone got a chance to stop by eventually… All the ladies that came to stop by were a pleasure to meet and we cannot wait to work with them in the future!

Thanks to girls of The Studio Beauty Team that came out! We had a fabulous time with some familiar faces and all of the other wedding vendors and look forward to working with them soon.

At the end of the busy day, the girls got to have a fun session in the photobooth.

Jenn is an excellent client of The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup and has frequented for many different services, with her man and sometimes solo. Our latest encounter at The Studio, she was in for a makeup look after a day of work. We started out with taking a headshot of her, so we can see the difference at the end of the makeup session.

For the makeup, MikaDoesMakeup prepped Jenn’s skin with a Laura Mercier primer, then mixed up a couple shades of MAC studio sculpt foundations, tinted moisturizers and mineral foundations to make up her colour. She then mixed a few Makeup Forever HD concealers to cover any redness around her nose and darkness around her eyes (not much though!)  Powdered all over with an HD translucent powder from Makeup Forever, then a quick brush over with a YoungBlood mineral loose powder foundation to give her skin a flawless finish. Her cheeks got some rouge, a nice pink/peach tone to blend in nicely with her skin tone.

Now on the eyes… Prepping the eyelids with a MAC shimmer paint pot (limited edition), and then applying a gold/black baked mineral eyeshadow from MAC from her lashline to her crease. After extensive blending, Mika then added a black to her crease and blended some more, followed by a relatively thin but full black liner with a slight wing (blacktrax from MAC)… Mika then added a full set of false eyelashes, then got out her MAC lash fan to apply a generous coat of mascara to both top and bottom eyelashes.

For her lips, Mika applied a nude lipliner, then mixed up a few nudey-pink lipstick shades and applied to her lips with a MikaDoesMakeup lip brush… then finished off her look with a nude lipgloss to create some depth in her lips!

Voila, Jenn’s look is complete!

You know we are going to have amazing pictures when you add the following things – model Ariel, photographer Lloyd K. Barnes, the location of The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup and MikaDoesMakeup!  Lloyd wanted to do a day of the dead makeup look, but MikaDoesMakeup added a twist to the “dead” makeup and made one half of Ariel’s face pretty, and one side of her face not so pretty… Since Ariel is so gorgeous on her own, this day of the dead makeup look still looks amazing! Another great turnout from the team!

Vancouver bride Marie and I met up a couple times for her bridal makeup trials at The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in Vancouver, to make sure I was the perfect makeup artist for her wedding day. When she decided to go with myself and my team for makeup on her day, we were more than thrilled to be a part of it! Marie had many bridesmaids so I brought on Kym and Faye from The Studio Beauty Team to join in on this downtown Vancouver wedding.

Makeup artist/hair stylist Atefeh was already in Marie’s hotel room at The Terminal City Club in Vancouver doing the hair for the bridesmaids when we arrived. The Studio Beauty Team and I quickly set up our stations and went to work on the bridal party for the next couple hours. When we were finished, the makeup looked fabulous and everyone was clearly happy and ready to take on Marie’s wedding!
