Vancouver bride Marie and I met up a couple times for her bridal makeup trials at The Studio by MikaDoesMakeup in Vancouver, to make sure I was the perfect makeup artist for her wedding day. When she decided to go with myself and my team for makeup on her day, we were more than thrilled to be a part of it! Marie had many bridesmaids so I brought on Kym and Faye from The Studio Beauty Team to join in on this downtown Vancouver wedding.

Makeup artist/hair stylist Atefeh was already in Marie’s hotel room at The Terminal City Club in Vancouver doing the hair for the bridesmaids when we arrived. The Studio Beauty Team and I quickly set up our stations and went to work on the bridal party for the next couple hours. When we were finished, the makeup looked fabulous and everyone was clearly happy and ready to take on Marie’s wedding!

“Mika’s new Hornby Street studio is absolutely adorable and incredibly comfortable. The pedicure chairs are huge and luxurious which adds to the stress-relieving experience. Yana performed my manicure, which is flawless. She is skilled and has obviously had a lot of experience. She was also very helpful in helping me select the right colors to achieve the look I was going for. I’m rough on my hands (lots of baking and washing dishes) but five days later, the polish job is still perfectly intact. Not only did Yana give me a great service, she helped me with my Italian during the process! She is Russian but lived in Italy for seven years – thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her, although didn’t feel forced to. She is extremely laid-back but focused. Thank you so much Mika and Yana – I will see you again very soon.”

If you’re always on the look out for great makeup brushes that actually work fabulously and are priced right, then I have just the brush for you! I’m a local Vancouver makeup artist that goes through makeup brushes like socks, and I know exactly what is good, what is bad and what is totally overpriced. My carefully picked makeup brushes are so good, I even use them to apply my own makeup daily, along with all of my clients and friends. I swear by the original dual-ended shadow/liner brush and the lip brush that doubles as a small concealer brush… the blush brush is amazing to accentuate the cheekbones as well as perfect for applying loose and pressed powder. I especially love the angled eyeshadow brush when applying my smokey eye makeup… There are more makeup brushes to come!

These brushes are comparable to MAC and other popular makeup brushes but are priced less from $8 – $20 (All Natural hair bristles!)

From Unflattering Makeup to Perfect Makeup

It’s good to switch it up once in a while… and that’s what I did with my latest makeup blog. I decided to do a fun “make-under” on my willing model Yana, where I applied unflattering shades and colors on her for the before picture. Then I applied a more suitable foundation color and bronzer… I then focused more on creating a “cat-like” eye with natural looking false eyelashes. I used dark shadows on her top lash line and a silvery shadow for the inner corners of her eye. I then completed her look with a pale pink lip! I think the after pic is a more flattering makeup look for Yana. Take a look!
